Pickleball in Antioch, Illinois

Antioch's main pickleball gathering place is Vern Thelen Park, a new 30 acre township park on Rena Avenue. Its outdoor courts are used almost daily, and players of all skill levels can join ongoing open play. That makes the park more useful than an ordinary unscheduled court, especially for someone arriving alone.

Where to Play Pickleball in Antioch

  • Vern Thelen Park, 39900 N. Rena Ave., is the center of Antioch pickleball. The park has outdoor pickleball courts, a comfort station, pavilion, basketball courts, sand volleyball, and a playground. The courts support frequent informal open play for players across skill levels.

The Township's scheduled league has been canceled, so do not plan around a formal league night. Regular players continue to use the courts and welcome others into open play.

Getting Started with Pickleball in Antioch

New players should start at Vern Thelen Park during active open play. The broad skill mix gives a beginner a practical way to watch the local rotation, meet regulars, and enter an appropriate game instead of practicing alone. Learn the scoring and basic serve before joining a game, then use the Coaches section if you want individual instruction.

Antioch Pickleball Open Play

Vern Thelen Park pickleball has ongoing open play and is used on most days. Play is informal rather than a fixed league schedule, so players rotate into games based on who is at the courts. All skill levels are included.

The Antioch Township league is not running after low registration. Current organized activity is therefore centered on the park's recurring open play rather than scheduled league matches.

Visiting Antioch and Looking for a Game?

If you are traveling alone, go to Vern Thelen Park. It is Antioch's strongest route into a game because the outdoor courts have regular open play instead of functioning only as space for prearranged groups. Bring your paddle, balls, water, and court shoes, then join the rotation that matches your level.

If the courts are quiet when you arrive, the pavilion and comfort station make it reasonable to wait for the next group. The park is on the east side of Antioch, a short drive from the village center and the Chain O'Lakes area.
